The large Hirudo Medicinalis leech is our second most popular product in the shop. Hirudotherapy patients with more urgent therapy needs choose the large leech because of its size and ability to suck more blood. Large leeches suck five times more blood than small leeches. The bite also bleeds for longer.
The large leech will enlarge enormously and if kept at home and cared for appropriately, leech can be reused on the same patient in as little as 3 to 6 months. As they age, large leeches become more experienced and can dilute blood more quickly and dissolve clots by forming a good, clean suction channel. Their abilities make them extremely good at improving the microcirculation of tissues and rebuilding capillary structures.

Hirudotherapy with large leeches is associated with minimal pain or discomfort compared to their small counterparts. Large leeches inject larger amounts of hirudin, painkillers and antibiotics, making therapy with them easier and more comfortable and much faster than the other leech sizes. Large leeches are extremely easy to care for, very resilient, have the highest survival rates and live longer. They also move slower, making it harder to run or escape. The muscular large Hirudo medicinalis leech, on the other hand, is quite agile and has a strong instinct for identifying problem areas on the body that need attention. The best use for the large leech is for diseases and conditions that are long-standing and deep-rooted. It is best to apply this leech to areas and parts of the body with thicker skin, such as: B. on the lower part of the legs below the calf muscles and on the upper back.
