The large Hirudo Medicinalis leech is our second most popular product in the shop. Hirudotherapy patients with more urgent therapy needs choose the large leech because of its size and ability to suck more blood. Large leeches suck five times more blood than small leeches. The bite also bleeds for longer.
The large leech will enlarge enormously and if kept at home and cared for appropriately, leech can be reused on the same patient in as little as 3 to 6 months. As they age, large leeches become more experienced and can dilute blood more quickly and dissolve clots by forming a good, clean suction channel.
